Introduction to Sound Theory and DAWS

Students are introduced to the Concepts of Sound Theory.They will be given an understanding of the Home Studio Setups including selecting the right Equipment. This Module will also give the students an insight into popular industry standard Music Production DAW's Logic Pro and Protools.

1. Fundamentals of sound / Different Types of Sound Waves in Digital Domain.
2. Studio setup and Gear Requirement for Home Studio
3. Introduction to DAW - Logic and Protools
4. Opening & Saving Projects in Logic X and Protools
5. The Interface , Browsing and navigation of DAW
6. Editing, Arranging, mixing down & exporting mp3 and Wave

Synthesis and Vst Instruments

Students will be introduced to concepts of Sound Synthesis and Music Sound Design by using various parameters of a synthesizer. All Leading Vst Instruments and Plugins from Native Instruments will be covered in this Module.

Module Length   6 Lectures

1. Introduction to Vst and Samplers
2. Introduction to the Synthesizer: Basic controls, filters and envelopes and Oscillators.
3. Library and Preset Management Setups
4. Choosing, Analyzing and Shaping Sounds (Bass, Pads and Instruments) etc
5. MIDI FX: Arpeggiator and chord trigger. FX: Reverb Delays Chorus Flanger etc.
6. Automation and Placements

Midi Concepts, Midi Controllers and Midi Programming

This Module covers a detailed insight into concepts of MIDI, various Types of Midi Controllers, and Midi Programming In Logic Pro.

Module Length   12 Lectures

1. Introduction to Midi , Midi Programming, Midi Controllers and Midi mapping
2. Rhythm Concepts: Bars, Beats, Tempo, Time Signatures & Counting
3. Automation with Midi triggers, Velocity, Pitch bend and Envelopes
4. Midi Sampling, Loops Recording, Midi notes, Quantization and Score
5. Adjusting count-In & metronome; MIDI editing windows: piano roll, score & list

Projects

Projects are designed to encourage the spirit of collaboration and also harness individuals talent. The students are encouraged to use all facilities available and come up with their own materials in terms of complete mixed and mastered arrangements. This focuses on real time experience for students which can prepare them for the professional environment. Assignments are carefully laid out in semesters so that the student’s progress is monitored and analysed for further scope of improvement. Project completed by the students are served as show reels for the students which can be really helpful from a job perspective. Group project which includes video song which is composed & produced by student.
